Come on guys. I can't believe there isn't anything posted here at all. Not one, not even a news clip or link.
As big as our state is and it's dead in here.
Let's get some talking going.

Texas
And to add that of all the states I've been in, Texas (IMHO) is the greatest. It would be awesome to have another site to read of some FDs that are testing. I check TCFP's website, but I am here way more often.

Check out the TML website as well. They list FD jobs as well. I keep an eye on the site looking for a PD job.

Didn't see anything currently in the Austin area but there is 21 jobs listed right now. A lot less than the police openings.

It would be nice to see more Texas discussions going. I'm actually surprised given the wildfires we had here in Central Texas this year.
I'm not a firefighter...yet, but I'm working on it. Looking to enroll in a training academy soon and start volunteering. I couldn't be more excited either. It's been a long time coming and I'm finally making it happen.
Anyway, let's hear from the Texas folks on the board! And if anyone has any experience with South Hays Fire Department's "Texas Fire Academy", I'd love to hear about it.

I think there was a thread or two in the main forum regarding Bastrop. To be honest pretty much all of Texas was busy with wildfires at that time. We had a 60 acre one that taxed us and the surrounding departments back in September. 60 acres isn't all that much but it worked us hard that day.
Congrats on wanting to volunteer. I don't know anything about South Hays so I can't help you there.NREMT-P\ Volunteer Fire Chief\Tactical Paramedic

Yes!
For those looking to move here and get on with the Austin Fire Department...you should know that AFD is one of the best FD's in the country. They did a study awhile back and found that it is actually easier to get into Harvard right now than to get into AFD as a Firefighter. The ratio of applicants to candidates selected is running about 100:1, I think. So good luck if you want to get on with AFD...they are a truly wonderful department.
Me, I'm about to get on with another local dept that is combination paid/volunteer.

My wife has family in san antonio, We have applied with arcadia there and austin. This is so we can get to work. I have been told that they are a good company to work for, What do you know about them?
Is the process to get certified as a medic really 4-6 weeks?
To be honest I really would like to move there it seems like a good place to raise kids , I have always lived in GA. This is a nice state... very green. But there ALOT more jobs there.
But God's will not mine.Bring enough hose.

To be honest, don't know all that much about Arcadia. They have an operation in Falls County next to where I live. From what I understand they are an employee owned company. One of our medics went to go work for them for a bit before coming back.
There are plenty of private companies to get hired at depending on where you move to. I don't know of one place that doesn't need medics. Our clearing process isn't bad that I can remember. But 4-6 weeks sounds about rightNREMT-P\ Volunteer Fire Chief\Tactical Paramedic
