Default Getting CPAT certified near Philadelphia?

    Hi,

I have seen several posts lately for departments (namely bridgeport ct) wanting their applicants to be CPAT certified before even applying for their testing process. How would one living in the Philadelphia area become CPAT certified? I would travel if need be, but of course I would rather do it closer to home to save on expenses. Does anyone know of an an agency that conducts the test to become certified?

Most paid departments in Maryland require CPAT in order to be hired. They include it in their hiring processes, so if you contact a department that is hiring they may be able to allow you to test with them. I know Montgomery County, MD is getting ready to do a written test so I'd keep an eye out for a CPAT class form them in the next few months. CPAT is only good for a year though so I hope what ever department you are looking to get hired with tests within that time frame.

In order to get certified you have to be in the application process in the east coast.... there are 4 places you can PAY to take the CPAT test. 3 are on the West Coast and 1 is in the Midwest. The certification costs $5,000 a year to be able to administer the test. at $100 per tester, you'd have to get 50 testers annually just to break even plus cost of equipment and facility.
