    Default MA Civil/Non Civil

    Does anyone have a list of the towns/cities in Massachusetts that are non civil. ie you do not have to take the state civil service exam in able to gain employment.

    Click on the link below and go to the section titled "Fire Departments Covered By Civil Service." Thats a list of all the cities and towns that hire from the state administered exam, so every town not on that list uses their own hiring process.

    I would be willing to be up to an 1.5 hours from Boston. Wife needs to get to work!

    That would mean 50 miles or less.

    Residency is a huge deal in Mass...I'm not sure if the city/town you live in is civil service or not, but residency is a very big deal.
