Summer Employment

Does anyone know where to start for summer wildland jobs with the usfs. I have my FF1, EMT, Haz Mat, Vehicle Ex, confined space and basic 130 190 classes.

how do I know who is hiring and when to start the whole process

Go to http://www.wildlandfire.com/jobs.htm and follow links. Probably the most comprehensive website, especially if you are in California.

Pretty much everyone hires some. Start off maybe with where you would like to be first, and then go down your list. Also realize that the more popular places likely don't hire very many new folks, and conversely, the more remote, waaaaaaay of the beaten path places probably have a highter turnover and will be hiring more newbies.

The best advice I can offer is to call your choosen places direct and see if they are under the national open continuous roster, or are old school enough to have their own hiring protocols.
