This is the first year I have paid close attention. Do the awards usually slow down over the holidays or do they manage to keep up the pace?

They use to drop 1199's on Tuesday and award on Friday. They would have a few that would drop in between. Last couple of years the 1199's appear when ever but award on Friday

Don't feel bad, South Dakota didn't make the cut either. Although I feel we have been pretty fortunate to even receive grants becasue of the vast area covered with little population. It's very hard to justify but somehow we all make do with what we are given. Keep the faith and let the good times roll.

Merry Xmas for some! Award letters in mail boxes now!
Well it will be a Merry Xmas for some departments today as award letters for round 2 of AFG are already in your in-boxes of your online application. Congratulations to those of you fortunate enough to have scored and early round award. For the rest of you.... well patience has its virtue and like it or not we are still in a holding pattern for now. I am quite sure that given the Holidays that things will continue to be slow until after first of the year when things will set sail , full speed ahead. For now all you can do is patiently wait. Focus on the good things if possible, enjoy your families and have a safe Holiday weekend folks. Merry Christmas and Happy and hopefully prosperous New Year!

First Time Afg Applicant
Quick Department Background,
Rural Fire Dept in Northwest Ohio serving 37 sq miles with rought 1500 people, We average roughly 60 to 80 calls a year. 100% volunteer dept with a 25 person roster. Our turnout gear is from 1998 and our scbas the 4 we have are from 1992. We operate on a $10,000 budget for the year. Our station is a old 2 door service shop that has been modified so many times i am suprised theirs anything left.We have a 1992 5man cab 1250gpm pumper with a 100gallon tank, a 1990 2000gallon tanker, a 1990 custom build brush unit and a 1999 utility van equipment truck.
THE QUESTION
I just recently became chief and applied for the first time ever the AFG grant. I applied for 25 new sets of gear and 12 new SCBAs which is how many riding positions we have. My question is we havnt heard nothing yet and ive seen they been awarding some grants. Whats the process for this grant and how does the awarding work.
Any info would be appreciated
Thankyou

At this point the computer and peer review have been completed. Those applications that scored high enough to make it into funding zone are now being awarded (highest to lowest score with some exceptions for regional differences). If you didn't make it past the computer you will receive a computer DJ. These DJ's start arriving in emails usually after 4-6 rounds of awards.
There is one indicator to look for in your grant application that it maybe awarded. Since you are a first timer log into your application and expand the "Action" box. You are looking for "Update 1199A" in that box. This is the form for direct deposit of awarded funds. If it's there click on it and follow the directions to fill out and process the form.
This is an indicator of a potential award and does not guarantee a future award, but 99% of the time it leads to an award. This could take weeks before an 1199A reference pops up. You are still in the hunt until you receive the computer DJ.

Nope and that is something that AFG should fix. There is no reason, in this day and age of computers and instant communication with the click of a mouse, that this list should not have already been up and posted by 9:00AM EST. How about it AFG; can we nudge the "computer geek" to be a little more timely with the weekly posting?
