You need to go read up on the fire service. First you ask about facial hair. You want a goatee/beard.... For you sake, No.
Now, shaved hair to long hair/cornrows? How about SHORT HAIR? Dude, look at the fire depts and follow suit if you're serious, which I believe youre not b/c your understanding is subpar even for a 'newbie'. Don't get mad, just read up.
Seriously cornrows?Last edited by legos.8ty7; 08-07-2012 at 10:52 PM.

The reason I'm asking is because I've seen firefighters with long hair so I was just curious. I don't have to grow long hair but I'm just embarrassed about the back of my head (to the point of random people in public saying the back of my head looks like the surface of the moon). In regards to the facial hair, that's not important either. It was just a thought.
And yes seriously cornrows to keep it out of my face and tighter to my head.
So I may or may not grow long hair and facial hair is a no-no because of properly sealing the mask. That's all I needed to know. It wasn't critically important and it won't change me becoming a firefighter.Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.

Something that you need to keep in mind is how you're going to look to the people involved in the hiring process. While YOU might be okay with corn rows, you must face the fact that most of the people involved in the hiring process will likely feel like you're not going to represent their department in a professional or positive manner.
Is there some reason that you can't just grow short (IE: buzzcut) or medium length hair? I'm not sure why you're going to a shaven head to wanting hair so long they're going to mistake you for a Metallica roadie.Career Fire Captain
