I'm in the process of taking over the overseeing of ems(non-transport BLS) at my department, want to make some SOG's as there aren't really any in place at the current time. Wondering if anyone would like to share their SOP/SOG with me? Specifically looking as to when non-transport members should get on the ambulance( code, extra hands, etc.)

Just a quick overview of ours...
1. Non EMT's can not respond on a medical call until the quick-response vehicle is on scene.
2. EMT's are required to meet the same standards as the members of the rescue squad (the transport agency) to act as the AIC on a call. There's a chance that they may be required to ride in and/or AIC on the ambulance, so that way, there's no question that they're going to be able to. Our members are required to get their time with one of the local transport agencies.
3. Our EMT's do not respond on an EMS unless they're willing to ride into the hospital with the ambulance. They can't say, "well, I can't go in because I have to go to work, school, etc". If they can't commit to the ambulance ride, then they don't go.
4. Related to the above, they have to be willing to get on the ambulance for any reason...working a code, trauma, extra set of hands, overweight patient, you name it.
If you want to PM me your e-mail address, I can send you the actual SOP if you'd like.Career Fire Lieutenant
