Hey, I've been trying to get information on Asheville FD, but not much look in the forum. Best best is to seek out and find someone on this forum who lives in Fayettville that can tell you about it. NC seems to be pretty unpopular on these forums, except for city of Charlotte.

The salary of $29,506.00 isn't that great to begin with. But if you are jobless, I suppose it beats nothing but it still is poverty level. Other cities in NC, VA, and MD begins at least 10 G's better and have the same or better benefits.

Try calling the department and ask them these questions.

    This is their web site.

Pay $10k better in other areas of NC? Maybe Charlotte or Raleigh, but thru my research, most places in NC start between $28k and $31k in NC.

Asheville is an awesome city and awesome dept, they $28,500 to start, and it's more expensive to live in Asheville area than probably most areas throughout NC.

Yeah I found some similar information on their web sites. I guess I may have to make a phone call or two to find out more information. I applied to Fayetteville and a bunch of other places up and down the east coast. I am really looking to move down south to the NC area. Most of their pay from what I have seen is relatively in that same pay range. Thanks for the help brothers.

If you anyone else has any other intel, please reply to the thread!! Thanks. Stay safe.

Fayettville is a military town. Lots of low income areas. A good amount of fire.

Durham is actively hiring, great aggressive Department.

Also, keep your eyes open for Raleigh as well. I "heard" they may start a process again in the next few months.

OK there are multiple departments hiring in NC, I am sitting in my hotel room in Charlotte waiting to take my test tomorrow.

If you are trying to stay on the west side of NC I know Greensboro has a continuous application period, Hickory FD is open, and many more.

Look around my friend, Google firefighter jobs and you will find many sites that can tell you who is hiring. I personally use firerecruit.com but you have to pay for it... I guess the question is how bad do you want it. Unfortunately people do not post on the forums till after the deadline (so much for a brotherhood) I am guessing to minimize the competition. Now I will not say all... some posts do make it on before the deadline, all I am saying is don't bank on these forums.

I was reading along, and I felt you were giving solid advice until you threw out the "so much for the brotherhood" line. After seeing that, I felt compelled to vent.

When I was 2, I knew I wanted to be a fireman. I got involved in an Explorer program, and eventually got on the vollies. I trained and trained. At the same time, I was putting in applications anywhere and everywhere, trying to land a gig. This was before the internet, so I actually had to pick up the phone AND ACTUALLY PLACE A CALL!!

It's called initiative folks. If you want to land a job, get on the internet and do a search for God's sake. Stop trying to have everything handed to you on a silver platter and just do it.

Just because a guy works his balls off to find places hiring, with hopes of landing a gig, doesn't share his info with the world doesn't mean he isn't a "brother". To be honest, I'd rather work beside him because he worked hard versus waiting for the fire service gnome to hand him a hiring notice.

I share who is hiring with others because I already have a gig, 14 years left to go (not that I'm counting because I'll probably retire, move, and get back into it). But, I'll never forget how hard it was to try to find out about gigs. If someone comes to this site in search of job notices, I give them some credit, at least they're doing something. A guy who pays for notices, I give them EXTRA credit, because they want it bad, just like me back in the day.

    Anyways, I feel better now. Good luck to every one of you with your search. Just remember, DON'T GIVE UP IF YOU DON'T GET IT THE FIRST TIME. Look at the following Departments in the interim;

    - Apex
    - Cary
    - Raleigh
    - Wake Forest
    - Durham
    - Chapel Hill
    - Greensboro
    - Charlotte
    - Asheville
    - Winston Salem
    - Hickory
    - Wilmington
    - Gastonia
    - Garner
    - Holly Springs

Sorry if I forgot some, all of these are growing areas in the state.

RFD I would never talk bad about this profession I have been a firefighter for 10 years now from my volly experience in Pittsburgh (Emsworth VFD) and NC Volly experience (Elroy VFD Wayne County) to my US Air Force firefighting. Now I am a firefighter in Charleston SC and I would not trade this job for anything. I guess the point that I was trying to make was don't rely on this forum alone to find jobs, and I have to respectfully disagree with you on the part of "he shouldn't have to share his hard work" I too m working my but off to find another department and sometime I just missed something or the sites I use miss that particular city testing and i would love to read about it on the forum before the due date.

I am sorry about using the brotherhood thing and for that I will make up for it by posting all of the job links in NC per my paid site.
