Took mine and passed on the 7th, was the 12th person and i believe there were 3 that failed. Heard from a friend at dallas that the number of people left before cpat was 348.

    @ hejl12

Thats pretty good numbers. Assume 20 people failed the cpat. Thats 328 left to pick for interviews. They said they usually take three times the number they want to hire, so thats 255. No too bad I guess. Its pays to fill out the PHS well and include letters of rec, i hope anyway...

For those who have already taken the cpat, is this a standard cpat (stair climb, hose drag, equipment carry, search, rescue drag, forced entry, ladder raise, and breach and pull) or does Dallas throw in an extra mystery event. Thanks in advance!

Same exact CPAT that you'd take anywhere else.

What time are you scheduled for???

Suggest you get on the phone and start calling at 8 or earlier

Or see how you feel and maybe go for it

And congrats to the class graduating in the coming week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anybody understand exactly how their pay plan works? Does one start out on the civil service pay scale or the 'meet and confer' payscale?

Does the "1yr" mean that you will get a pay raise every year? Also, when you promote, do you just go up one grade and one step?

    I'm confused.......

...also...anybody from the DFW area...how is DFD's pay compared to other departments? retirement?

    thanks!

Dallas fd seems to have faired the storm of Dallas city politics

They have thier own pay and retirement system, which I have heard and appears near the top in the metroplex

Most other cities are on the state retirement system tmrs

There are a few in the area that have thier own retirement system

With that being said you have to deal with Dallas city politics, but any city you do not know how the economy in the future will help or hurt

    Here if you read contract;;;

fire49, yeah I've looked into their pension system. one can retire with 90% of their max three (or five, can't remember) years after about 38 years of service......

the thing I don't understand is their pay scale. Im surprised many more people havent btought the issue up. salary is a huge deal. the new Meet and Confer doc has the 2012 pay plan in it but it's so screwed up you can't even read it out....

All that is fine and dandy but working for Dallas is about more than that and if that is all you are worried about then maybe you should find a different department because working for Dallas is more about being the best and taking pride in what you do and being proud of what you get to do being a busy and aggressive depatment with lots of dedication and traditions. Maybe you should question your intentions. Not trying to be a dick but loving your job and what you do, and being in love with the idea of being called a firefighter are two different things and if you are in love with the idea and not the job then Dallas probably isn't for you.

once again some politics invovled in the pay scale, you will be taken care of, one story I heard is they take more retirement out of your check, than other cities, but you get it back when you retire

So 3 out of the first 8 or 9 that went were disqualified at some pint during the cpat today. I thought I heard there is around 300 left.

When the new meet and confer kicks in all members on the dept will get close to a 4% raise based off the old salary when they lowered the pay, but inactuality were just getting back what they took. As for pay just be happy if you get hired the pay will come there's good money on the Dept once your working and put time on. The money will come later just be happy to wear A DFD uniform, if your lucky.

Took my CPAT yesterday. No one came in after me to fill out polygraph paperwork and I was 5th out of about 15 people. I left before everyone finished so I dont know how many people passed. They said if you don't hear a call in about 3 weeks..early July...to call in and see what the deal is, but you probably won't have made the cut to move on to the polygraph.

Captain also said 13 more positions have opened up so even more spots!
