FWIIW - I am not now nor have I ever been an employee of Pierce or any of their affiliates.

I am a fire apparatus photographer.

I take photos of fire apparatus.

These are some I took at the Pierce Plant in Appleton.

The white vehicles went to the ATF!

The desert tan went to Kuwait.

There were no secrets with these. Having said that they did have in production some vehicles that were, and were kept out of site of the customers, which were secret!

Don't tell my parents I work for Pierce. They still think I play a piano in a whore house.

Cupcake is an employee of Finley Fire Equipment - who is - I know it is hard to believe - a Pierce dealer. A big dealer. Looks like they really have their act together, 3 locations, mobile service, very nice.

My explorers would have done a much better job than he did.

Looks like John must be a new sales guy for Finley. He doesn't even have a picture on the website yet.
Any " secret" truck is not built on the main floor. The ones Pierce REALLY wants to hide are built across the street from the main plant. The doors are usually locked and you have to be escorted in if you do not work in that building.
As far as the employees on the floor having their pictures taken they are free to move out of the photo if they don't like it. Only a very few give a rat's furry behind one way or the other.

First thing, You don't know what the h@ll you're talking about. Whomever you talked to on the "phone" doesn't either. I have never worked for ANY manufacturer of ANY type of fire apparatus, or equipment for that matter. If anyone is lying it's YOU. What I stated in the original post is my OPINION. My VFD bought a truck and that's my experience with the pre-build. Yes we bought the truck through Findley. We have 2 other Pierce's and I have pride in those trucks with no regard for what anybody else thinks.
I have been to the Sutphen plant as well, and although they have made improvements to their facilities and quality of their trucks, I was not as near as impressed. We just recieved a Sutphen at my career station, and the number of defects and repairs it's had in the FIRST MONTH back my opinion.
If you think anything I've said is BS, prove it. You don't know me, I don't know you, so if you don't like my statements then don't bother to jump into one of my posts. I have no reason to impress you and don't give a damn if you are or not. I won't post pics of somebodies facilities without permission just because everybody else is doing it, and that's they way it's going to be.

My suggestion: WATCH Rosie carefully, won't be long before they overtake Pierce in #s if they haven't already.

No problem there Cupcake. But insofar as jumping into one of your posts? If you post it here, it is a public post, sitting there asking for comments. Good, bad, or indifferent. Nature of a forum. You want to post stupid things, expect someone to comment. You want to post a doctorial thesis, expect someone to comment on it. It is a forum.

You are probably right. They are turning out lots of product. My preference runs towards other manufacturers, but you can't ignore Rosie.

Hub Cap, I've been to Mack, American LaFrance, Seagrave, Maxim, Pirsch, KME, Oren, Pierce, Emergency One, Baker Equipment, Hale Products, Waterous, Red Head Brass, Elkhart Brass, Akron Brass, Snap-Tite, Marion to name a few, on business, with camera in hand.

At no time was I told I could not take any photos of vehicles on the building line, or the ready for delivery line. I also had permission, not only take them but, to publish them, with proper credit given.

I fail to see where your problems come in about posting photos.

Relax, John. It wouldn't have been an issue except that you visited Pierce. Had you said you visited Toyne, the same people would be gushing praise and patting you on the back for your wise decision.

Regarding the pictures, you won't get in any trouble if you post them. The only builder that used to ban cameras was E-1 and they haven't done that in years. There isn't much chance that you got any pictures of anything proprietary or even close to the R&D area at Pierce.

Nah, if he really wanted to impress us he would have just gotten back from the Hahn plant and seen equipment under construction. Now THAT would have been cool!

We've had GOOD luck with ours. Of course we spent quite a lot of time on how we wanted them laid out and on our spec chassis.

I appreciate at least one person that has the ability to converse like an adult. The decision to not post pics is mine, and I don't care if people don't like it. It's just a personal decision of mine to not post pics of someone else's property, business, house, or any other thing that isn't visible to the general public. I just don't think it's my business to do it. I will post pics when we get out truck delivered though. I just don't get the attitude from some of these people. My original intent was to just post that it was a pleasant and positive experience. If guys like other trucks better, fine. Extol the virtues of whatever you like. To me it's like comparing pickups or cars. I'm a Pierce man.

    Default No Pictures

I remember in 2006 and 2007 a builder had a conniption and a coronary when someone published photos of the stock piled pre-emission engines.
The powers that are were bent out of shape because the big boys saw how many engines we had on the shelves. They were pigeon holed and secretaries were using them as chairs. They were bent when I took pictures and I was a representative. I am sure the big boys were doing the EXACT same thing.

Some small manufacturers may not have a R & D building so they ask not to have pictures taken or they do certain thinks to "hide" trade secrets. I know of one such manufacturer. If you need pictures of anything just ask your sales representative and I am sure they will get you what ever you want. That way they are sanitized. As for Appleton I am guessing they at least have some secure areas and if I remember correctly there was a photo of the door to "Area 51"
