When you enter the interview room, you will hear a brief introduction and then begin the interview. You
will be given three hypothetical scenarios with related questions. The amount of time for each response is
provided in the introduction instructions. You will hear the question read aloud and a written copy of the
questions will be available for you to follow.

Your response to the interview questions is being videotaped. It is natural to be nervous. Many candidates have
found the following suggestions to be helpful:
    • Try to look at the camera or the screen and speak clearly. Many people find that watching themselves in
a mirror or videotaping themselves while they practice answering questions gives them an idea of how
    they will look on camera.
    • Listen carefully to the interview question and formulate an organized, comprehensive response. Do not
be afraid to pause during the interview to gather your thoughts.
    • Answer the question that is asked.
    • Avoid rambling on about unrelated issues or, the opposite, providing answers that are too short and
don’t convey your knowledge on the subject

After your interview, you will be required to stay at the testing site until everyone else in your group has
completed their interview. If you have a morning interview time (8am or 10am) expect to stay until 1pm. If you
have an afternoon interview time (1pm or 3pm) expect to stay until 5pm. You will have access to water and
    restrooms during this time.

Um...8am-1pm and most of that is waiting?

What do you mean 2930? I might need to reschedule my bus ticket. I was sure I would be done by 4, but it says a possible 5pm time. My interview is at 1pm.

other advice on the interview is if you are given two minutes to repsond to the question do not talk fo 15 seconds and set there the rest of the time.

do not ramble, but continue to talk, just like you would in a real interview or if you were at a fire or ems scene

We have to wait for up to 4 hours but aren't allowed to bring in a phone or even a book in my purse? Cool.

Well they said the same thing about study guides during the entrance exam, and people still brought them. I really wish they would enforce the rules!!

Depends on how tired I am. It's been a long week and I still haven't recovered from being at the capitol until 2 a.m. on Tuesday. BTW I was at this morning's session but forgot to say ahead of time so we could high five or something!

The people I talked to who went said it wasn't very informative. Answers to questions people asked can easily be found online. I was told that the SOI will consist of 3 questions and you're given 5 mins to answer each. There will be 1 person in the room with you, everything will be recorded and graded at a later time.

Xochitl Hernandez, the woman behind the CPAT mentoring training and a huge inspiration to me, was featured in the latest Smart Girls At the Party (by Amy Poehler) segment.
