I think the Feds lost the email, when the computer crashed, from the city.

One if these days it will happen

If anyone has any heard any information or can break it down, please feel free to share or PM. Thanks.
I wish they'd at least release the initial rankings after the 2013 SOI. But like I've said before, doing that might make it more difficult to surreptitiously implement the city's affirmative action agenda.

Can someone give me a brief summary of what has happened this past year in the 2013 Austin Fire Department hiring process? Haha.

On a serious note. Has anyone heard from the floor about what is going on. Anyone have any insight close to the department?

COA released an RFP recently for a company to design and implement a hiring process for AFD. So it looks like they're gearing up for 2015 in the hopes that the union's appeal doesn't go anywhere.

Sounds like good news to me.If they are talking about the hiring process for 2015 must mean that they have made up some kind of decision about the 2012 and 2013 process. May be we will hear something soon.

I've been saving my money to prepare for a hopefully near future move to Austin.

Anybody have any insight into how long until we hear anything at all?

Talked to a few friends in the know and apparently the union is trying to drag the process out until the new city council is elected. A majority of the candidates with a fighting chance at a seat have stated they would've voted in favor of the union instead of for the decree. They're hoping they can force another vote on it if nothing else can be resolved. Can't blame them - if the city ends up winning on this it's a HUGE blow to the bargaining powers of any public servant union in the city, let alone the state.

Judge Yeakel of the US District Court of the Western District of Texas will decide soon (before 10/29) whether the union has a right to intervene in the case of City of Austin v. United States of America pertaining to the ratification of the consent decree. If he says no, which from reading the court documents accessible by the Public Access to Court Electronic Records appears likely, then the court will hear any objections to the decree at the Fairness Hearing scheduled for 10/29. Such hearings are mostly formalities that have no bearing on the passage of the major substance of decrees, therefore it would be passed soon thereafter. At that time, the AFD would be authorized to resume the 2013 process.
