Fire49, what do you mean by "bungled"? I didn't test last time, but coming from out of state seeing that makes me a little nervous.

I guess they finaly hired people in 2011, just have not heard[/QUOTE]

Sounds more like a train wreck. Does anyone know if they still need to hire a bunch? Sounds like thy wanted 120 out of that process but maybe didn't get anywhere close?

My unsubstantiated understanding is that the last process produced a class of 40 laterals, and there will be a class soon to follow of 40 'regular' cadets.

40 laterals were hired (39 graduated last month) and 40 traditionals started academy like January 30th so will be on the streets around August. No word on next hiring process but AFD should continue to hire 30-40/year I guess.

Does Austin still have the age cutoff? I looked on that link and didn't see anything. They used to, which is why I could never apply with them.

Wow, I must have just skated through the last time I tested. I'm still going to fill the app out and make them tell me "No".

Has anybody heard if they are using the same test as last year or the test from the previous years?

Does anyone know when the application period is going to be? If the test is May 23, I feel that the application should be up very soon. Any ideas?

I too am anxiously awaiting. I'm happy to hear others are still waiting. I was horrified I may have missed the deadline. Awaiting it is.

I just called and they said there is no set date to announce yet for applications. Just make sure you feel out an interest card on their site, and that should inform you.

I am still checking their site everyday looking for updates

Per an HR person at the City of Austin, there is no certified track/test this time around...just the standard full length academy cadet class.
