The letter I received said the 300/40. Congrats on making it good luck on your poly!

Got a conditional offer 2 weeks ago, the letter came in the mail last week with instructions on scheduling a physical and respirator fitting. Training starts Jan '13 for those who pass the final steps.

Just because I'm a Rescue nerd, does VBFD have a fully staffed Rescue 1 or is it a "extension" of a company?

VBFD does respond to medical emergencies and firefighters are trained EMT-b through paramedics, however they do not have ambulances, instead the city relies on volunteer rescue squads that operate out of firehouses city wide to transport patients. Not sure if that answers your question.

Anyone know when we're supposed to get final offers? I want to hold off getting a place down there until I'm certain about getting hired.
Also aconlon or anyone else, I did find a 2 bedroom apartment for pretty cheap while I was down for my medical, so PM me if you're looking for a roommate.

I just got mine today, via email and call! There are a lot of phone calls to be made (class of 40+)

I just had my medical yesterday, so I guess I'll be waiting a bit. I heard at HQ that the current class is 41 strong. Apparently there's a new ladder going into service too.

Any of guys coming from out of state have success in finding a place yet? Have been looking for something to rent (preferable a house) in the Chick's Beach area or close to the boardwalk, but not a lot of options. Figured living in VB would be easier while in the academy but was looking at places in Norfolk/Newport News/Hampton and the other areas if anyone has a suggestion.

I've been looking, and I'm currently horrified at how much it costs to have a nice single bedroom apartment.
There's Marina Shores in Chick's Beach, but I hear that traffic out of CB is terrible during beach season.
Are you interested in a roommate? I asked HR if they had a list of people looking for roommates, but apparently hiring isn't fully done, so they don't have a full list yet.

I used to live in yorktown and I can tell you it might be tough getting from the peninsula every day. The HRBT (Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel) that runs from the peninsula (Newport News, Yorktown (Hampton etc...) can get pretty backed up.

I don't know about anyone else, but that information was not shared with me. I would like to know though.
