Large Rosenbauer Order:

Lyons, SD - December 19, 2011 - Rosenbauer, the fire-equipment industry's leading manufacturer, has won an order from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of the Interior to supply fire engineering equipment worth a total of $318.8 million US. 1,125 vehicles are to be supplied, of various types and for various operational purposes, as are boats and other civil defense equipment.

Due to the rapid increase in the Kingdom's population over the past few decades, it has been decided to launch an additional expansion program for the fire protection sector. This will involve building and fitting out 180 new fire-stations, mainly in urban areas. As well as this, some 6,000 extra firemen have been recruited and are currently undergoing training.

The word on the street is the reason there is litigation between Rosenbauer and Spartan is because of this order. Spartan's #1 chassis buyer is Rosenbauer and with Rosey now building their own chassis Spartan will loose their biggest customer. Rosey isn't ready to provide their chassis for all of those 1,125 units. Spartan has cut them off because of their new chassis so now Rosey won't be able to meet the production numbers for this order anytime soon.

On a related note it was also reported that an employee involved in the Spartan "kickback" Federal Investigation in 2008 has recently been hired to run the Rosey chassis plant.

Rosenbauer isn't supplying 1,125 custom chassis for the Saudi order. If you read the press release, you'll note that only 506 of the 1,125 vehicles are being built by Rosenbauer America, specifically the South Dakota Division. Of those 506, 330 will be built on the Rosenbauer Commander custom chassis. This order has nothing to do with any litigation between the two companies.

Clearly you don't realize how busy both Rosenbauer facilities are, even without the Saudi order. There is no shortage of new (domestic) orders.
