I am trying to find the mandate stating the communication requirements that take effect in 2013. Does anyone know where I can find this?
Thanks

You do realize that this has been on the radar since 2004.
Shouldn't be a sudden surprise to anyone.
I did recently get a call from a department wanting help getting funding for an all NEW radio system from top to bottom. They had put off doing anything until now. They're talking towers , repeaters and a voter & microwave link up , plus all new portables and mobiles & pagers.
After I stopped laughing, I explained that the odds were not good in finding anything before the deadline and I don't see the FCC handing out waivers for this, with the exception of a very few examples of Large systems, mostly state owned & operated.

Yes I do, I just moved and joined my current department and I was wondering why there hasn't been a big push in our county. Didn't realize it only pertained to the freq band it did. We are still at 34Mhz. No wonder nobody is talking about it here. Thanks.

Yeah, I would be happy if they just added a few more towers for better coverage. We have a couple of dead spots in our district where neither radio nor phone communications work.

Low band probably would have been better across the board. People complained about clarity but a strong low band worked a heck of a lot better in most areas and buildings over a low wattage digital. When I was in PA we used to catch Baltimore County bounces all the time, and once when I at the station goofing off in between classes some storms in the midwest bounced an LA County signal clear as day for over 10 minutes. A couple of times down here we caught an Allentown PA bounce at the old department. I cursed trunked systems a couple of times when I could throw my radio at the guy I was trying to talk to but couldn't reach, and that's not as far as it used to be...

I do and I don't understand this last minute waiting on the narrow band stuff. I see that folks keep hoping it will go away and not spend the money but my State Comm folks have been screaming at us for 4 years now to get this done. Surely it has be the same in other states. I have a couple of departments here that have not made the proper moves and our 911 Center is going to shut down all wide band operations this summer I think and folks are starting to panic. Sometimes I wonder why I stay in this business...
