Wear your best boxer shorts and fill a flask full of Jameson whiskey just prior to walking in. Offer the chief a shot before you sit down.
Ok seriously...like that wouldn't be funny as helll....
Just be yourself. Don't try to BS him because he has seen it all before. Be polite and have a firm handshake. I hate a limp, dead fish like handshake. He knows you will be nervous so surprise him and show that you are a cool cucumber under pressure and make an impression.
You will be fine...Good luck!!Jason Knecht

Make sure you are "kempt" and not unkempt.. hair neat, shaven and if you have facial hair make sure it is neat and trim.
Dress neatly, suit and tie, shoes shined.
Arrive early, check yourself in the mirror before going up to the interview area.
As Dickey said, a firm hansdhake and most important... eye contact.
If he asks a qustion you have no answer to, don't try to BS as dickey said. A chief gets to where he is by being able to detect BS.
PS: everyone gives the answer " I want to be a firefghter to help people"... think of a better answer.
Be cool, calm, collected and confident."The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

Stay loose. Be a little afraid.
Politics is like driving. To go forward select "D", to go backward select "R."

Hope it went well for you. I'm in the same boat here, i have a chiefs interview Monday. They are interviewing over 100 people and its only a 15 minute oral. Does anyone have experience with this type of oral. I'm at a loss of what to expect. By the amount of people i imagine it will be somewhat structured. But I've never been to a chiefs so I really don't know. The dept has said it will pick 10 applicants to move on to a longer oral interview after they complete this process. Any help ? Anybody been in this type of interview?
