Da Rook: We didn't mean to be facetious, but there are several hundred locations where they could be. Add to that pressure switches in most of the hydraulics, including outriggers. Then there is a whole raft of angle position and angle sensing devices that could feed a computer, with all sorts of associated automatic calculations that take both ladder angle, extension and hydraulic pressure loads to perform computerized calculations. Most generally there will be switches to sense proper stowing/ bedding, out rigger extensions on each outrigger, down pressure sensors on each leg. Rung alignment sensors to aid in climbing, rotation sensors to help align the ladder with the cradle. There are probably a whole lot more that I didn't mention. (compartment door sensors, pull out step sensors, etc)

Don't forget, some of those switches are also interlocks. Those are fun.... sometimes.
