It is with sadness that I post the loss of Wichita Falls Texas Firefighter Kelly Crush. Kelly was a 20 year veteran in 2008 when he was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease. I first spoke to Kelly 2 years ago during a teleconference at an MDA event here in Chicago. He picked up on my thick Chicago accent and asked me to say "Da Bears". He mourned with us when a young BROTHER was killed in a fire just 8 days later. Kelly attended our state union convention a few months later and I was proud to call him a friend. He told his story on behalf of MDA until just before his death. He was a brave man who fought that dreadful disease with strength, determination, grace and good humor. The man truly inspired me. Rest in Peace Firefighter Kelly Crush.

RIP Brother, my grandfather was also taken by this awful disease and I would never wish that upon my worst enemy.

Rest in Peace Brother Crush.“The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn and feel and change and grow and love and live.” Leo F. Buscaglia
