I will be doing my first oral board at the end of april and have a unique situation. I have completed a FFI academy and have passed the state FFI cert with flying colors. However I need to pass the Haz Mat Ops test to get the certs. I have taken it 4 times and missed it by 1 or 2 each time. How should I precent that I have completed a ffI academy but still have to pass the hazmat in order to get my certs. I am dedicated to do whatever I need to do to get the certs. I am so close but don't want to come across as un teachable. Excuse my french but that damn hazmat ops test is giving me hell. How do I present that I have aced the FFI stuff but need to pass the hazmat stuff because I know that it will come up durring the board?
Thank you,

There is NO good way to present it. Haz Mat is not that tough. Make the class a priority and pass it. We are not looking to hire people who struggle with basic classes. This will translate into difficulty in our basic training program.......

There is no need to tell them you have been struggling. Everyone seems to have an area that trips them up. I would just say, “I have completed a FFI academy and have passed the state FFI cert with flying colors. However I need to pass the Haz Mat Ops test to get the certs., which I sould have completed by May of this year”. Just tell them the date you plan on having it done. It counts for almost as much as having it all done, and you are telling us the date you will have it. Just make sure you do.
Good Luck, Capt Rob
