Question using bunker pants as chainsaw safety chaps

Just wondering if there are any studies on how wail bunker pants work to protect you from a chainsaw accident. Are they any were as good as getting the chaps made for chainsaws.

They are not made as safety chaps. They will not protect you like chaps. Do not use them in the place of chainsaw safety chaps.

I'm confused; could you state that more clearly? :|

They are NOTHING like safety chaps. Not in any way. Most turnout gear is made of either Nomex or PBI (or some sort of blend of it). Good chainsaw chaps are made primarily of Kevlar.

Even see how easily turnout gear rips or gets holes in it? The materials may be great at resisting fire and heat, but not cuts. The number one reason we send gear out is not to be cleaned, it's to have holes patched.

As has been unequivocally stated, bunkers ain't chaps.

Specifically, chaps are made of a bazillion fibers that are designed to quickly gum up the chain before it can contact skin.

Also note that chainsaw safety chaps may or may not stop the chain from cutting or maiming. My brother was wearing a pair of Husqvarna chaps and yet he still has a nice scar on his thigh / knee from a saw. It stopped before getting through the bone, but it still did damage.

    If you want to get real serious about it . . . . . . . . . .chain mail.

Oh, and did I mention - DO NOT USE BUNKER PANTS AS CHAINSAW SAFETY APPAREL. IT IS NOT MADE FOR THAT PURPOSE AND WILL NOT WORK AS SUCH. Sorry for the earlier miscommunication.

Nothing is as unimpressive as someone who is unwilling to learn.
