I dont understand. I know Polk Co isn't South FL or City of Orlando, or City of Tampa... but still. Other than the fact that it's a lot more rural and a much smaller county, I dont see why there's not much interest. I had a friend tell me he'd rather not be a FF at all than be a FF for Polk Co and I think that way of thinking is pure stupidity.

Look man.... You ask the same questions over and over and over regarding hiring and job market in FL in thread after tread to the point that it's annoying and makes you sound like a whiny kid. Here is the reality. Some Depts will have a 100 or less test. Some will have a few hundred test. Some will have a few thousand test. It's just the way it is. This is a near impossible job market for anyone looking to get a job here. Either you are going to move to FL and get your standards here and try to get a job or not. If you do be prepared to put 110% of every waking breath into getting a job until you do or don't try at all..... Either way, if you keep asking these same questions you are going to get smartass answers.

On a different topic, I looked at the Union Contract and I was wondering what is a legacy paramedic? Also I remeber talking to one of your guys before and it used to be to get the full medic pay you had to ride teh medic position. Is that different now is everyone getting the full pay regardless if you are the medic on that unit?

Sorry,I didn't get notified there were replies.
Legacy medics are employees from old Polk ems. Don't worry about them.
Medic pay is now limited to 70 something employees total, regardless of assignment. Bad thing about that is you can be moved over to any open medic spot and will not get paid mileage for your drive.
Last I heard was 150+ applications.
It will likely be part timers and EMS employees hired to full time fire spots. At least that will create part time and emt positions....at this time.

We had about 80 pass the written. Those who already work for us and have passed the test last time did not have to take it again. There was an issue with the RPAT, for those who needed it. It has been re-scehduled, but has slowed the process down again. The updated timeline is on our website.
