    Jamrey,

Due to civil service law, if I remember right you were high on the list. They got to the 180s to hire the last person in the current class. To do that they had to consider you as a candidate 4 times and then eliminate you from the process. Since that was done you are no longer eligible. It sucks I know, but that's how it works. I am aware of some people who had this happen to them in 3 tests and get hired on their 4th try (test).

Wow, that sucks real bad. What's killing me is I don't know why I was not selected. I passed everything I was in the top 10 with no criminal record, I'm already a firefighter/emt and an Iraq vet. What was so bad I was passed up four times? I understand no one here can answer that but it really crushed me.

I guess I'll just scrape what's left of my soul off the ground and go through this process again some day and hope that even after passing everything I don't get cut for an unknown reason ...****. good luck to anyone else in the process. Wish you guys the best.

Look I understand the feeling but I will tell you my story. I was passed over twice, sometimes by people who signed up after me but had the same score. No explanation, no nothing, finished the entire process each time. It sucks, but you know what I did? I took the test again, and again, and again, and on my fourth try was hired. I took the police test, and other civil service tests to keep scoring higher. I was told that sometimes it's about name recognition. They see your name enough in their process and they finally pick you. Do I know that for a fact? No, but I just kept going. There are plenty of FDs hiring and if you are in Ohio, your pension time will transfer within the state. If Cincinnati happens to be the one you want to work at, you keep trying each time they have a test.

Carney. After the background check is it just the medical part that left to do?

Yes you get finger printed as the last step. Once that is complete only those being offered a job will get a medical physical done . Of note still pay attention to the safer grants as that's their goal to hire 50. As of last Friday they had not been awarded a grant yet.

It has been announced that the City of Cincinnati has won a safer grant of 8.07 million to hire 50 recruits. No idea on an exact start date but the Fire Chief has thrown out sometime in May. Good luck to all.

No job offers yet. The selection works like this. They start with candidates 1, 2 ,3 and select candidate one. 2 and 3 get a check next to their name. They then go to 2, 3, 4 and pick number 3. Candidate 2 gets a second check and candidate 4 gets one check. They go to 2,4,5 and select number 5. Candidate 2 gets a third check, candidate 4 gets a second check. They go to 2, 4, 6 and select number 6. Candidate 2 has now been passed over four times and is removed from consideration and can no longer be eligible for a job. Candidate 4 gets a third check. They go to 4, 7, 8 and pick number 8 . Now candidate 4 has been considered four times and is removed from consideration and number 7 gets a check. That's how it's done. The answer I don't have is how many candidates are considered per round. If the number per round is higher than 3 than they can skip down the list quicker.

On March 19, city council accepted the safer grant. That had to happen before anything. Since they accepted it, now they must decide the actual start date of the class. I keep hearing May but no official day. If it starts in may, look at the dates of all the Mondays, it will be one of those, except memorial day.
