If you are looking for a personal trainer in the DC area that is specifically geared towards CPAT testing take a look at www.wildfireadventures.com. I ran the recruit training, CPAT testing and several other programs for Washington DCFD. DCFD does not currently have classes in session nor are we testing. I’ve tested several hundred applicants and know what is needed to pass the test. If you’re looking to get in shape or have a specific goal in mind such as CPAT take a look at the site. Training is done in College Park.

Depends on the person - everyone has strengths and weaknesses. If you can't afford training sessions my best advice would be to strengthen and increase muscle endurance in your legs, better your cardio and increase core strength. if you can't do luges and squats then you can forget about the stairmill with 75 lbs on your shoulders. From the date of orientation you have 5 weeks, in those 5 weeks you to be offered two practice sessions and your final test. The 5 weeks was agreed upon between IAFF & IAFC for the adequate time for someone to train for it. (IMHO it depends upon the person) Send me a PM if you have any questions.

The website says that written notice will go out whether or not you move on in the process. Has anyone's references been contacted?

I just read some highlights from the Arlington FY2013 budget and it notes that they cut this year's recruits from 26 to 13. It looks like they lost almost $1 million from last year's funds.
