Flow charts supplied to you? By who?
When we get new hose, first thing we do is pull the engine out and flow our lines and nozzles. I could care less about charts and formulas and calculations. Get out and flow the actual hose. That is what tells you what it will do and how it will perform. Guess I'm just too old school to worry about these "non hands on" methods....![]()

"This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?

Of course hands on is best. The flowchart was done by somebody on the dept., they updated it. If we had a run before we had a chance to actually train with it, at least I figured I could ballpark it with a chart. I was supposed to be a low friction loss/ low nozzle pressure combo, but they were giving higher pressures than what we'd used on the old hose. It's nice to have the charts for referance and at 3 am. We don't have assigned drivers, so a quick look at the chart to double check yourself is a good thing.

The first thing I did is try to find one on the internet, no luck. We just so happened to have gotten a new engine a few months ago so the flowmeter was fairly reliable, so we were able to use that to figure out some things. Of course a hose chart won't solve the problem of the 5" sticking together, it'll be interesting to see how that's resolved.

Were putting in for new nitrile hose to convert from woven hose for this years afg rounds with sizes ranging from handlines to supply lines. What would you say are some good manufacturers of nitrile hose?

What kind of issues have you had with it when using it as a handline vs woven hose? Would the use of a rubber coated woven hose work as a "best of both worlds" idea? We are a small, rural volunteer fire department with limited man power and spare hose, so the idea of converting to rubber hose came about with its ease of cleaning and repacking without the dry time or woven hose.

Anywhere possible rubber hose will get stuck or be hard to pull around corners. Some of the "nozzle forward" techniques also don't work out too well with rubber being as it is a single liner and isn't as rigid; the hose tends to fold over. It does not pack as neat by a long shot.
We use to run it on our front trash lines as well. What we found was that it mildewed horribly, much like rubber 5 inch hose will. When it finally failed hose test we replaced it and have never looked back.
