Note for Mississippi AFG vehicle applicants

For the last several years Mississippi has had a program (RFTAAP) that would pay the 5% match on AFG trucks up to $20K or $70K towards the purchase of a new truck for a non AFG truck. I was lucky enough to get one of the nine mississippi awards for vehicles in 2011 and had anticipated using these state funds. According to my county coordinator who talked to the state coordinator, the new governor has put this funding on hold, so i will have to pay the match on the two trucks that will arrive in July. So keep this in mind if you are from Mississippi and applying for a vehicle in 2012 and were planning on using these state funds. I am afraid this is the beginning of the elimination of a lot of programs to help the fire service. It has definitely changed the face of the fire service in my county, we are very grateful, it was good while it lasted.

Makes it even more interesting, if you read the article in the Clarion Ledger about MHP wanting to buy more vehicles. Might be something to discuss at the Fire Coordinators training meeting .

I would like correct my earlier post, i found out this morning that the matching funds from the state are now available for the AFG trucks (Supplemental B Program), still undetermined on the non AFG truck funding. Sorry for any problems my post may have caused. I don't like be one spreading misinformation. . .
