Two men crash car outside Orem fire station
OREM -- Two men crashed a car into a tree outside an Orem fire station Saturday, then one of them tried to stumble away.
Orem Sgt. Craig Martinez said Michael Robert Bishop, 40, was driving when he and Nathan Stone, 33, hit a tree outside Orem Fire Station 2 at about 5:40 p.m. Fire personnel heard the accident and rushed outside to treat the victims, but instead saw Stone throwing a beer over a fence and trying to flee on foot.
According to Martinez, firefighter Lt. Jason Gracia pursued Stone and ordered him to stop.
"He obeyed," Martinez said. "He saw he wasn't going to get away."
Martinez explained that Bishop and Stone suffered only minor bumps and bruises in the accident. The vehicle reportedly sustained more damage than the tree.
Bishop was booked into jail on charges related to driving under the influence, having an open container and driving restrictions based on past DUIs. Stone was booked on charges related to having an open container.
