It frustrates me that some departments prefer you to have experience and others don't. I have 8+ years of volley experience but said nothing of it during the interview because to me, what I have or have not done volunteering is entirely irrelevant in a department I have never operated for or with. The two guys interviewing me have forgotten more about the fire service than I know, why should pulling my hose with the vollies have any determination or merit with what I would do for their department?
/Rant. Sorry fellas, just frustrated. Was very excited about this opportunity especially since I had passed the CPAT in another jurisdiction right before the Howard CPAT was going to kick off. Scheduled the interview right away. Thought things might work out.
I don't have ill wishes towards those hired, especially any vets. Hopefully those guys have long successful, safe careers.
