people need to lay off the kid, I know alot of 18 and older firefighters that shouldnt be near a fire scene. He is asking a question and no one is answering it and just giving him a hard time. Its not his idea to have a pager it his departments policy. He seems to be dedicated to firefighting a profession that we all love and would have jumped at a chance to be at the station at his age.
As for your question Junior22 I would go with the 5, it is an updated version of the 4. It is a little bigger but a better pager.

Wow! That is so awesome Dude! It is a shame I never had a pager until I was already a firefighter for almost 7 years. We had fire phones and a siren. I feel so inadequately prepared for using a pager because I didn't have 2 years of walking around looking cool with it on my hip before I could actually respond.

If this is the reason they issued you a pager that you say you can't use to respond, heaven help the fire service. I just find this entirely ludicrous.

Actually, I am beginning to believe this entire topic is BS. First of all, if your FD has Minitor 4's and 5's why in the Hell would they ask a non-responding junior if he wanted a Minitor 4 or 5? The 5 is the latest model so why would YOU need that? Nope, I am calling BS. I don't believe a thing you have posted.

Why does everyone need to be rude, shouldn't you guys be glad I'm getting into the service and I'm taking it seriously?

If you are in fact an explorer, then you have no need for a pager. If you won't be responding, you have no need for a pager. If you have no need for a pager you definitely have no need for the latest model pager a Minitor 5. I am not saying you are lying, but I have serious issues with you saying a fire department is asking a non-responding Junior what kind of pager he wants.

Exactly. If your department has that kind of money, please tell them to send some of it to my department. We will be more than happy to take it. We don't even have enough radios and pagers for active interior members let alone juniors.

Why? Because your question has all the earmarks of trolling.

If you're legit; good for you. Learn whatever you can. Quietly. When you're 18 and ready to be a firefighter you'll have better questions worth answering.

Well, I mean, if he doesn't have a pager how will he know when his table is ready?

I wouldn't, the negative pressure created by the positive pressure may just slide those contacts up and over your eyeballs. This could sever your optic nerves, rendering you blind.

Don't let these guys bully you little bro. Get that pager, listen to the various calls. Picture where each incident is. When you're ready, and old enough, you will be able to respond. It's not your fault that your department most likely got a SAFER grant and purchased too many pagers. It's not your fault that some white shirt decided to give them to everyone.

So accept the pager, throw ladders, open hydrants, roll hose, clean under the running boards, you can do this!!

Whats with the age requirement anyway? They should lower that standard, volunteers need all the help they can get, even if it's just a 15 year old.

Why make it 15? Why not 12? They can ride a bike and leave home without mommy to go to calls at that age.
