    Default Aftermarket stickers or additions to fire helmets

    I am Looking for information on helmet stickers/TETS/etc. being added to fire helmets. Can't find anything on NFPA regarding the sticker requirements. Does anyone have any information? I'm sure this question has been asked.

    maybe implied::

    7.1.3.4 Small specimens such as hanger loops and emblems or patches that are not large enough to meet the specimen size requirements in 8.2.2.1 shall be tested for resistance to flame as specified in Section 8.2, Flame Resistance Test 1, and shall not be totally consumed, shall not have an afterflame of more than 2.0 seconds average, and shall not melt or drip.

    Thank you. Reason I ask is that we have a number of Ffs with new black reflective stickers. We bought these ones because the yellow reflective that the helmets come with get black from soot and lose their reflective abilities. Weve tested these stickers in our fire control classes we teach and they hold up. But some of the chiefs are pushing NFPA, saying the flammability is an issue. We even did comparison tests with the yellow manufactured reflective and the aftermarket shines like a flashlight compared to the yellow.

    If it isn't part of the original testing for UL or NFPA certification, it may void the warranty and put you and/or you chief in legal jeopardy. If it isn't part of the original design or approved by the manufacturer, it doesn't go on the helmet.

    Keep your equipment clean and you wont have an issue with reflectivity

    how do you feel about those wide rubber bands that people put on their helmet to hold door chocks or flashlights, or the flashlights/cameras that mount onto where the helmet strap mount is screwed into??
