Invitation to all Brothers and Fire Departments
Franklin Fire & Rescue 100th Celebration July 21 2012
Franklin Fire and Rescue Department is proud to announce the celebration of their Centennial Anniversary on Saturday July 21st in conjunction with the 9th Annual Franklin Folk Festival. The Folk Festival is a Celebration of Appalachian Heritage that shows what life was like at the turn of the century. The Fire Department Celebration will be located on West Main Street in front of the downtown Macon Bank. The public and all surrounding County Fire Departments are invited to join us for a fun-filled day which will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with a fire engine parade. The Franklin Fire and Rescue Department would like to invite Fire Departments from surrounding counties to bring an engine to our event to be in the parade and on display as well. If your Department is thinking about bringing an engine please RSVP by Thursday July 19th. To RSVP or for more information on the event contact Franklin Fire and Rescue at (828)524-2332.
The parade of engines will begin at Franklin Fire and Rescue, located at 49 Maple St Franklin, NC. , and finish on Main Street in front of the Motor Company Grill where all the trucks will be on display. State Fire Marshal, Wayne Goodwin, will be our special guest speaker. There will be an old-fashioned Bucket Brigade Challenge consisting of eight-person teams transferring water from one water source to another until water comes out of a preinstalled line. The team with the fastest time wins. Your department is invited to enter our Bucket Brigade with your eight-person team. The Challenge will cost $50 a team to enter.
We will also offer a smaller free Bucket Brigade Challenge for kids ages 5-12. All visitors may have their picture taken on an antique fire engine to download and view and print from the Department’s website. Motor Company Grill will be offering a special Fire Department Menu with a portion of the proceeds going to the Fire Department. Free commemorative buttons will be handed out and commemorative t-shirts and glasses will be available for sale. The history of the Franklin Fire and Rescue Department can be viewed at the Commemorative tent. There will be live entertainment throughout the throughout the afternoon with “JimBob”… a mix of Americana and folk music. To end our celebration, there will be a drawing for raffled items. Raffle tickets for items can be purchased in the Commemorative tent.
