    Talking Finally!

I can post what I've been going over in my head for the past few years...

I have accepted a conditional offer of employment with a local suburban fire department pending the medical physical and drug test.

I was in the grocery store when I got the call from the chief's Secratary and had to leave the store because I couldn't even think straight. Whoever said that getting the job is like winning the lottery has got to be right on. The feeling is unbelievable. I start July 9th again pending medical. I would like to thank everyone who posted their stories and whatnot. It's nice sometimes to read what others like me were going through. Especially during the longer times where there was no news or after I found out I did awful on a written or failed a physical agility. It's nice to get feedback from people in the same situation.

Now let's see what all I can learn and maybe not kill myself or severly hurt myself in the process

Blachatch yeah it is one of the heights departments.

Doubled8206 yeah it's outside the city where I live now but it's like a 20 min commute. I didn't grow up here but it's home for the past 5 years.

Also to those who are still trying an working towards it...it's a crappy process. No one process is tr same. They all have different tests, physicals, interviews, etc and it sucks. Waiting is for sure the hardest part not just some dumb lyrics from a song. As cliche as it is to say just keep your head up and keep plugging away. It took me 5 years and over 30 tests to finally get a job which from what I've seen is close to average. I think during my probationary period I am going to keep a journal so if I get in situations where I want to speak up but shouldn't because I'm a probie I think having someplace to put my thoughts will help me out a lot because I'm the type of person that wants to help no matter what the situation is.

    ffmedicintheCLE,

What type of experience and certs did you have prior to getting hired as a perm?? And did you have a part time or a fulltime job while you were testing and getting interviewed? And if you did have a part time/fulltime job what was it?

    Thanks

My certs are firefighter 2 (240 hr card), paramedic, PALS, ACLS, BLS Instructor, Haz Mat tech. I've got 4 years prior experience on a combo FD as a part time ff/emt. I worked as a paramedic at one of the pediatric ERs in town. I know they went right up the list 1,2,3 and so on so I don't think any certs or anything made a big difference but maybe.

Congratulations! We all remember getting the call. It's certainly a life changing event. One of the highlights of my career is now being able to make the phone calls.

Im trying to get back towards Cleveland area and I am waiting to hear anything from some suburb Cities around Cleveland and hopefully we are not in competition for the same one, but either way congrats, it is awesome. If you would you rather not say on hear, maybe if you would email me at ffmecko@yahoo.com.

Thanks alot and good luck in your career.
