Ok, so I looked on the KBR web site for the requirements for firefighters and can they really be serious. They say that both Public Safety Telecommunicator I & II Certification are required. As a firefighter who the hell has Public Safety Telecommunicator I & II Certification. Sounds like a bunch of BS. Could someone explain this to me.
Its very common for prior active duty firefighters to have Telecommunicator I&II as they typically worked the alarm room. Most volunteer and career departments have full time professional dispatchers as they should but for some reason the government is OK with having its firefighters act as dispatchers. Thankfully where I work they are proactive enough to have civilian dispatchers.
Many of the Contract Chief's are prior Military since the Contractors are required to operate according to the military way of firefighting. It's also a way to hire prior military firefighters since they are typically the only FF's who have them.
Funny you say that... Since there are more non prior service than prior service in the contract world. Most of that comes from the volunteer services of the fire service.
He is correct in saying that the DOD has a step system in place that has to be followed. That system is sometimes over looked depending on the individual.
