Gwinnett County GA is currently hiring for Firefighter I. This position is only posted from June 22 – August 22, 2012.

Please note that we have removed the entry level written testing portion of the hiring process. Applicants must now submit (at time of application) test scores no more than 5 years old for one of the following:

• SAT (minimum score: verbal - 430, math -400),
• ACT (minimum score: verbal - 17, math - 17),
• ASSET (minimum score: reading - 38, writing -38, math – 38) or
• COMPASS (minimum score: reading – 64, writing – 38, math – 37)

If applicants do not have valid scores for the above, they can contact technical schools in their area or search the internet for testing locations.

Applicants will be exempt from supplying the above test scores if they possess any of the following:

• National Registry or State of Georgia EMT-I or AEMT
• National Registry or State of Georgia Paramedic
• Any associates degree or higher from an accredited college

Applicants must attach certifications, test scores, and/or copy of degree to their application at the time of application. Applications will not be processed without this documentation.

My best guess would be 30-40. The current recruit class has just over 30 in it.

I wonder how many applicants they typically get? I just went through a process for a small'ish dept (compared to depts like Gwinett) and there were over 600 applicants! My buddy in FL just went through a process in Central FL with a medium-sized dept where they only had 300.

When i got hired on we had over 2000 people apply and that was in 2010.

im not sure how the process goes now that they took the entrance test out. its different every time they hire. depends on how bad they need people and how fast they want to get them in the field. from the time i applied to the time i was hired was 8 months, but for some people i got hired on with it had been 2 years.

So is there a need right now for another class? I applied previously in 2008 but I did not have my medic then.

if your a medic now that def increases your chances. i heard we are about 90 people short right now and there is only about 30 in the acdemy now and half of them still have to go to emt school.

cpitts is right, we're down about 90 positions right now. From what I've heard they're starting another recruit class around October/November. If you have your medic already they posted a FireMedic position today and I would apply to that one as they'll be less applicants.

My process went like this: written test (which is now eliminated), interview, PPE (similar to CPAT), psychological exam, polygraph. I applied in April and my first day was January, so about 9 months total.

Gwinnett would be a great place to work for anyone looking to make the move to the metro area. Much more stable than alot of the other area departments.

Hey guys, what are the chances of getting hired this time around? I have submitted my AS degree and I have my national certifications in Fire 1, 2, Hazmat Ops, and Airport FF. Do those boost chances of an interview at least?

I see they have re-opened the application process, why is that?

It has stayed open. They extended the deadline a few months ago. I think it's open till sometime in Nov or Dec.

I also got the call from them for an interview, so hopefully that will be some good news for a few others as well.
