Do they hire much from out of state applicants? Saw where there was a $125 CPAT fee or out of staters, so kind of took that as a way to weed out of state applicants out.

I can give you the scoop on the Lexington Ky hiring process. Lexington would love to have out of state applicants. The reason for the CPAT fee is the CPAT is paid for and run by the State Fire Commission and it uses state tax dollars to pay for it. The state does not want people not from Kentucky to come here just to take the CPAT and then go back to another state. We will accept any applicant with a valid CPAT card within the last year from any state. Let me know if there are any other questions.

There is no set time on the ECU. As a medic you are probably going to spend 3 to 5 years on the ECU. We are currently doing at least 1 medic class a year to help increase the number of medics to shorten the time on the ECU. Even as an EMTB you will spend anywhere from 6 months to 2 years on the ECU. Our ECU's are also used as front line Fire Units. We ride 3 on the ECU. 2 Medics and 1 EMTB. ECU's are dispatched on all fire runs as a fire company. Each ECU has a compliment of firefighting tools and SCBA's and is utilized as a fire company on scene.

how do they base their hiring? is it solely on how you score on your test? do they hire alot more medics as opposed to EMT-B's?

Hiring is based on basic fire dept standard. No preferance points for EMTB or Paramedic anymore. Only preferance points are for Military.

We are accepting applications beginning on May 1, 2013 and ending on May 31, 2013. Please go to lexingtonky.gov/lexfire to fill out an interest form and be kept in the loop!
To answer your questions.....we are hiring again because we start a class in May 2013 and another in July 2013...those two classes deplete the list from the last application process (test).
