Just saw it on the local news. Carl Levins office announced the award of $22.5 million SAFER grant to keep just over 100 firefighters from being layed off. Hopefully they have the money to keep them after 2 years. I also hope that the feds keep a very close eye on where the money is going. Detroit is known for not having the most honest city leaders.

Detroit is about as doomed as a city can get, this SAFER grant does not even qualify as a life ring. The level of corruption is mind boggling. Somewhere somehow a portion of these funds will get miss-used and away we go right down a familiar path. Snyder just needs to step in and appoint an emergency manager and take the decisions away from the crooks the residents keep electing. The city will threaten a lawsuit when/if this happens but the reality is the don't have the money to hire an attorney.

Is there really and honestly anyone out there who can logically see Detroit coming up with $22 million extra in the next two years? Really!

Its a band-aid on a gun shot wound. When POP is up, its back to the soup line. Sad though, these are hard working Americans that need long term employment, but the realization is that they are on a 2yr life support. Look at all the grant money going out of this country on grants.gov.. That money would fund alot of jobs for several years. Im just saying.

More jobs are created with AFG funding than the last 4 years of SAFER combined...
