Quint Application Questions

I know that we are fighting an uphill battle, BUT...

We are trying to replace a 44 year old Snorkel that has no tank, pump, hose, etc. with a Quint with ladder and platform. We have many tall buildings in our community (approx.78 over 3 stories), several large industrial facilities over 100,000 square feet, several critical infrastructure items and we are listed as primary responders to a State prison. We are trying to consolidate our fleet and buy units that will serve multiple response types.

Anyone have any success/pointers for our narratives? As I said, I know it will be a long shot but fiscally we will never see a replacement through the city.

What you have posted are good arguments for the quint. What you need is to expand on those points to paint a picture for the peer reviewer. Some other ideas/pointsto get across in the narrative:

1) What are the mechanical & safety issues with the snorkel?

2) What are the limitations?

3) Is it passing testing?

4) Is it a mony pit to maintain? Spell it out on how it is and how it affects other aspects of running the department.

5) Is the snorkel first due on automatic or mutual aid responses?

6) Is it the only ladder company in the area?

7) What are the positives for having a quint?

8) Explain why you are consolidating the fleet.

I don't know why you say you're fighting an uphill battle; the story you told along with the research I quickly did on your fleet makes you a prime candidate for an award.

Thanks for the info guys. Narratives are finished minus some minor adjustments by the City Manager and Chief. Guess we will see how far it gets. If we can make it through computer scoring, I think we can present a strong case.

I feel like I am fighting an uphill battle also - quint for a town of 12k population in the middle of nowhere.

Thats why I am trying to get a copy of a successful one before I hit submit to make srue I have not forgotten anything.
