Yes they man the ambulance , not sure how it works , if they send you to paramedic after awhile on the job or what
Lot of stations so good chance for promotion
True civil service dept, so they negotiate a contact
The Firefighting Division has three shifts (A, B and C), with over 300 Firefighters assigned to each shift.* This allows the department to have about 280 Firefighters on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.* The city is divided into seven geographical areas or fire districts.* Each fire district has three District Chiefs, with each being assigned to one of the three shifts.* This makes for a total of 21 District Chiefs.

Once you promote to Engineer, you'll likely be placed in a Paramedic class and ride the Ambulance.
Great dept. to work for!

I was looking over SAFD's recruiting page and could only come across the 2011 written exam study guide. Does anyone happen to know if they're using the same study guide for 2012? Thanks

I think it is safe to assume for now to use the previous study guide. SA just switched to this new test format last year and I find it highly unlikely that they change it again this year.

They will change it up a bit for 2012 like the did from the 2010 to 2011, but it will be pretty much the same. I would assume they will continue to use I/O Solutions as they test vendor. Most big departments (Austin, FW, SA) use them. The only department that I tested with recently that didn't use them is Waco.

Anyone know about many applicants they'll be hiring or planning to hire?
