Does any body have any insight to what the call volume is like in charleston. And on average how often does the city get fires?

My engine is one of the busiest engines in Charleston and takes on average 180 to 230 calls a month. It all depends on the month but we are normally the busiest in the city. With that being said about 80 percent of them are medical. Now about fires they are hit and miss, I bet in the entire city we are lucky to get 1 a month but there has been times we ran multiple in one day, just like any other department we are hit and miss.

Got my email as well. It stated that the city won't be creating an eligibility list off of this exam. So am I correct to assume this exam is just for the one class they are putting through in December?

You guys need to relax...... this is the easiest process you will see for a city this big, all will be fine, blow the test out of the water and score a 90% or higher and you will get an interview, mind you the test is maybe at an 8th grade level! What you have to do is get in shape, probie school is no joke, our instructors are outstanding and they PT pretty much every day, so get ready now.
Thanks for the help. I got my flight all booked and looking forward to this process.

From what it sounds like a large number of applicants (150+, at least 120 didn't show up on this first day and I don't know how many missed the second day but the room was almost half empty) did not show up to take the exam, so if only 250-300 applied that dwindles down the competition greatly. Just FYI.

I tested the first day (Sunday) and test officials told the group only 108 showed up to test. It was surprising the number of applicants that missed the opportunity.

I was there Sunday too. From what they said there were 180 scheduled for Sunday and 200 for Monday.

I think the total amount of test takers was around 230 for 30 positions. I'm use to testing against 800 people for 3 positions. Crazy...

Thanks for the info, I found the most current info. Looks like the multiplier is still 2.14% per year, but its now for the 20 highest quarters earnings. What do you mean by "no medical paid either"?
