    Would that be 50 recruits for the 2012-13 academy classes?

    Last year I was really thrown off by the addition of the behavioral section of the exam. I scored alot higher on the cognitive section. The behavioral section being worth more didn't help either. Oh well.

    Nice benefit of SA:::

    The city's 4,034 firefighters and police officers have a different insurance plan. Health insurance for them and their dependents is covered 100 percent by the*city.

    I'm going to be flying in from Arizona if I can get the days off.

    Also spoke to a lady in the application processing department and she said no certs are required at all really. That they start you from scratch with their FD. Don't know if that helps anyone.

    Having Certs in the SAFD wont give you an advantage over anyone else. So what you heard AzGuy is true. There is no fast tracking or anything like that. Everyone goes through training just the same. If you have experience or certs you will have an advantage over your peers in terms of learning and training. And if your cert is in texas, you dont have to sit for the state exam at the end of training. Same goes for your EMT cert.

    This is what I have been told by other fire fighters who have recently gone through the academy.

    not taking the test,

    best to stay near the convention center

    just watch if you have a car, some charge for parking

    check east of hwy 37/ 281 , there are about five hotels, just on the other side of the freeway/convention center, near the alamodome

    Exactly what I was thinking. Looks like a lot of hotels down by the river walk and it looks like the downtown shuttle will be the best means of transportation.

    Check out red roof inn, holiday inn, comfort suites, best western east of 37/281

    And Hampton just a few blocks north of the convention center
