I have been on my volunteer FD since january, and this is my first training burn finishing up our FF I and II classes. We had parts of 2 departments in northern minnesota partake in this. Here are some pictures.

Awesome. Wish we were still allowed to burn homes here for training. They stopped doing that about 3 years ago or so.

from what I was told, there was alot more red tape involved with this burn than the last burn our departments did 4 years or so ago. i'm sure its only going to get worse here.

Yeah, EPA stopped us. But our area is full of ancient homes with asbestos and stuff.

Did you have fun? I know it's work but it's fun too.

if you look at the bottom pic of the first set of pics I posted. I'm the guy in the middle with a smile a mile wide!!!! it was a blast.

but the best part of the day was one of our senior firefighters, the guy who is always on the hose on an inital attack, whom i was partnered with went out of his way to compliment me. He is the kind of guy that you have to bust your arse off to get a compliment out of. that to me was more important than any test score I could have received.

Cool. Glad you had fun. Yeah it's always nice to get a compliment from higher ups or experienced people.

My first (and last) burn house was a blast. Was my first lesson in vertical venting. House was burning and they sent me and the chief to the roof to cut a hole with an axe. Funny thing is that was 12 years ago and I am just now taking ventilation training at the college.

    Keep safe brother.
