    Default Anti-Freeze systems

Anyone here have any experience with wet pipe antifreeze systems in their districts? Specifically in large warehouses? we just had some installed in a few 90,000 sq/ft warehouses and my understanding was they were only supposed to be used in runs of 14 heads or less. Any ideas?

It depends on what edition of NFPA 13 your building code references. The 2010 edition of NFPA 13 has no restrictions on the size (sq. ft.) of a system. Prior editions limited the maximum to 40 gallons. The maximum sq. ft. a single riser can protect is 40,000 sq. ft, for a warehouse, regardless of the type of system, wet, dry, antifreeze etc.

A bigger problem is the concentration of the antifreeze solution. They can burn if the percent is too high. See this link for more details http://www.nfpa.org/itemDetail.asp?categoryID=2064&itemID=48038

I had no idea but that is good information, thank you. Now I have to go out and check out concentrations. Our warehouses use 4 or 5 seperate risers so we meet that requirement but the anti-freeze is new to me so I have learning to do.
