How do those of you in supervisory positions refer those under your supervision to employee assistance programs for alcohol? I have a fellow employee that is at times out of control with his drinking. Never been to work drunk as far as I can tell but I have had phone conversaions with him where he is obviously intoxicated.
I find this to be complicated for me because he is of course a good friend as well. I want to help him protect himself, his career, and of course our fellow employees. So how do you handle that situation? A face to face "this is the way its going to be" meeting, do you tell your concerns to the Chief, do you send them to HR? I'm looking for suggestions, and thanks in advance.
