Phone calls will typically go out on Wednesday from the Congressman, but it's hit or miss on those phone calls. Some Congressman are very religious about calling their awardees while others you will never hear from.

With so little 1199a activity, I don't think I would anticipate a very large round.

Round # 1 of 2012 AFG is announced. Thank you FEMA and AFG for getting these awards moving so quickly... now don't drop the ball on the way to the finish line!

Yea it was short but it was timely! I got two on the list who are doing happy dances this morning. Curios that there were no vehicles awarded.

Oh yea and for those "naysayers" out there who think that it is a waste of time to apply if you are a small rural department and that all the money goes to the big guys, I would like to point out that the two winners I have on the list this morning in the first round, were both small rural departments. If you can document need properly you can get funded!

Default Congrats to all the winners

The dept in Kansas is very small.

Some large $$$ going to the west coast!

And for anyone saying training and regional aren't as important, congrats to Palo Alto CA who spearheaded that effort out there. Cost-effective training plans get rewarded. Doesn't have to be heavily populated areas either, many others in the more rural areas have picked up the funding too. Solid projects get funded, but not without putting up a good fight. With the cuts in funding levels anything that gets funded was a solid app from any type of department or community.

Wow, that was pretty short list... I wonder why my regional contact for the AFG program told me several weeks back there would be no more awards until January?

Supposedly there were software issues (surprise) all last month and at the rate they were (not) being fixed that was probably the outlook at that point. It's nothing to do with the people working in Fire Programs, knowing a lot of people in other branches of the government it's not a unique issue since most IT and software development has to be contracted out. Personally I wouldn't get so frustrated with that side of the process except for the fact I used to do that for a living, the last 5 years with a multi-billion dollar multi-national company doing enterprise solutions development/support. Not quite the size of our government but big enough to know it can be done if properly designed if given the time. I almost got fired over taking 2 weeks longer to upgrade one legacy program and got hammered for it from all sides until it was deployed and spent 6 months with no calls to HelpCenter about it other than the 1 where the guy had no internet connection at his office so of course it wouldn't work. After it had spent years in the top 5 for calls to HelpCenter. Like we say in the Army, slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Same principle could be done here but too much red tape all around and humans aren't generally in favor of making changes even for the better. Details.
