Is that the same pay for EMT vs medics? Thanks
-

After they're cleared as ALS providers, EMT-I's get a 9.4% pay incentive, and EMT-P's get 14.8% incentive.

I don't think it's really any secret that I work for the department, so I'll answer what I can.
Henrico is excellent to work for. We have top-of-line equipment, good staffing on the rigs, we're replacing and/or expanding several of our firehouses (two replacement stations under construction; one expansion under way with another set to begin soon; plus three others that have been replaced in the past three years). Furthermore, we have aggressive EMS protocols, aggressive fire attack, a great career development program, and as noted in an above post, excellent incentives for our ALS providers.
Morale is quickly on the rise with the appointment of our new fire chief a few weeks ago. He was promoted from within, and carriers the knowledge, skills, and abilities to make us a recognized leader in the fire service.
In case anyone is wondering, were authorized about 525 sworn positions. We run 20 engines, 5 tower ladders, 3 heavy rescues, 14 ALS ambulances (15th will go in service in early 2013), plus the usual support apparatus. The county's divided into three battalions, and average daily staffing is somewhere around the 115 mark. We're doing about 75% EMS runs, and we're assisted by three volunteer EMS squads with the delivery of ALS transport service.
Hope this helps...Career Fire Lieutenant

Box,
Are those heavy rescues staffed or are they crossed trained with truck companies? Also if I'm valedictorian any bonuses or perks to that like being stationed on a rescue? Also how good is the OT? Thanks!
-

No cross-staffing on the towers and rescues - they're all in separate stations. They're all trained in similar disciplines, however.
You can apply to go to one of the stations with the rescues, but you wouldn't get on it right out of recruit school. You have mandatory career benchmarks which must be met before you're off probation, and special services training isn't part of that.
I don't work OT, so I can't speak fluently on that, but I believe that there is a fair amount available. Like every thing, it comes and goes.Career Fire Lieutenant
