    Default Most painful problem day to day

    In the name of trying to make firefighting more fun and enjoyable what is the most painful problem you face on a day to day basis? The thing you wake up and say I really don't want to do "x". Maybe someone else has a solution...in any case I'm interested to see if there's common problems.

    Cheers,

    Steve

    First of all.. firefighting is a profession.... people do not become firefighters for "fun and enjoyment", they do it because they have a calling. If you are in it for "fun and enjoyment and the T shirt.. get the @#$! out.

    What really grinds my gears is as follows:

    * Incompetence
    * Firefighters who whine and complainabout the job but won't do anything to improve it
    * Officers that like the title but don't want the responsibilites that come with it
    * Chiefs who forgot where they come from

    * Mutt politicians who love to come out and praise you for the photo op, yet cut your gonads off when it comes to funding the FD

    * The "cowards corner" aka opinion/comments section on newspaper websites.

    Chenzo and philfirerescue like this.
    ‎"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

    Couldn't agree with that list more.

    You sound like my Chief, he also hates his job. I on the other hand like my job and find it "FUN". I think enjoying your job is what makes us (firefighters) good at our jobs. That being said even when you enjoy your job there are parts of the job you dread or don't like. I think Steve has a good point, maybe there are things you can do to help get thru the parts you don't like. Maybe a different outlook, maybe a different way of doing/handling boring parts of the job or just better leadership. Chief Gonzo I hope your outlook about your fellow workers improves.
