I am a new hire at Dallas Fire Rescue. After a long hiring process, I am holding the congratulatory letter of acceptance in my hand, one of the most exciting accomplishments in my life so far. I am extremely motivated and I'm ready to give this dream job my all. As a first generation firefighter in my family I am looking for any tips I can get. Any tips and suggestions about academy, being a rookie, or just department life in general will be greatly appreciated.

1. show up way early, remember dallas traffic especially fair park area
2. work hard
3. do not slack in emt school since the dallas ff instructors will not be there
4. check out this book, it was written by a dallas ff about six years ago, good advice
