I was looking for advice on what positives I should be doing while applying. I do have my EMT B Certs up to date (and work as a EMT for a IFT company. I want to go 911 but I’m still in the process of clearing my driving record) . I keep my fitness at a high level and refresh my knowledge in EMS. I know that I could be doing more. I’ve been applying for reserve positions, but have been getting letters stating that all positions are full. I live in SoCal and start my Medic course in February. Any advice would be great.

What firefighter classes have you taken?

I have taken the mandatory 5 fire Tech Courses requested by the LAFD . I have also applied out of state for Firefighter 1 positions and have taken their test. My testing scores weren’t in the top 10 %. I have work to do in that aspect. I was looking into finding actual hands on work offered by the fire service as a volunteer perhaps. I am 21, there for "too old" to be an explorer. I can’t find anything besides a cadet program.

You do know there is a little but of competition in ca?
And the ca economy is not the best
Maybe apply more in other states
You can get Tx certified easy online and two week academy
http://www.trainingdivision.com/firefighter-training/
Then start applying a little less competition
