I work at a USMC base and we wanted to wear our FD Tshirts with pink letters and ribbon to promote breast cancer awarness during October. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of these shirts would go to a local breast cancer foundation.
Base legal said we could not wear the tshirts on duty or sell them on duty, as it promotes a specific non-government entity. This comes after Obama declares a proclamation recognizing October as breast cancer awarness month AND encouraging all Federal agencies to promote
breast cancer awareness!
What gives?

Whats that big Federal Employee fundraising campaign thing they do every year- I can't remember what it's called....you get the big book of charities with the application and the codes to enter for your auto payroll deductions.......And Management always "strongly encourages" you to donate.....Next time that comes around circulate it to post legal and tell them "sorry- it promotes a specific non-government entity."

And you are so right. They "encourage" you to donate every year for that.

Thats right, the CFC......been a while since I have been out of the firehouse....August 29 2005 was my last 24 hour shift......but yeah, I would appeal to base legal and tell them "hey let us wear our pink shirts for one day, or else we're filing a ULP and/or a grievance over the CFC...I bet THAT would go over like a fart in church.

I have several buddies at Joint Base FD (Dix-McGuire-Lakehurst) and they all just posted FB pix of the entire on-duty crew (20+ guys) all in their pink shirts.
