Extrication of lip from lotion lid... seriously
Last night we were called to a residence for a 3-year-old child who "has her lip stuck in a lotion bottle lid." The caller said they had been working for two or three hours to free the child.
I get on scene and, sure enough, a little girl has the skin of her bottom lip wedged into a lotion bottle lid like this one, right where the green arrow is pointing.
She'd been farting around with it, sucking on it and whatever, and got stuck.
I couldn't get the flip-top lid to "hyper-close", and you can't touch the lid from the inside, so I decided to squeeze the barrel part into a bit of an oval shape, to theoretically create a gap. I couldn't do it by hand but used a pair of channelocks to gentle squeeze it and ta-daa! The lip came out.
The black "spray-paint" shows roughly where I squeezed.
The family didn't want medical treatment, so I told them to monitor her and administer popsicles PO as needed.
I've been in this stuff for 21 years and never seen one like this. Don't underestimate the power of a bored 3-year-old, I guess.“I am more than just a serious basketball fan. I am a life-long addict. I was addicted from birth, in fact, because I was born in Kentucky.”
